There is a formula that is available to help you to calculate the pot odds and improve your chances of winning. It is not a necessity to have this formula memorized but it definitely does help to get the odds in your favor. There are a lot of people who play online poker who have no idea how to calculate pot odds. Pot odds are what are placed into the pot in comparison to what has to be put in before you can call a bet. First things first
When figuring out how to calculate your pot odds you first need to figure out the odds of your winning a hand. The first things to figure out your outs, this is a card that if you get will help you win. After you have figured out the out you would then multiply your outs by 4 and then add 1. This is the percentage of being able to catch your out. On your next turn you would divide that number in half and add multiply by 2 and add 1. This would be your new percentage of catching your out. Calculating Pot Odds
Once you know how to figure out the chance of winning the hand you can then figure out the pot odds. The whole point of figuring out your pot odds is so that way you know if you should call a bet or not. In order to do this you would compare your percentage of winning to the amount of money that is currently in the pot. As an example: Let’s say that you have 20 outs. The first thing you need to do is to figure out your percentages You would take your 20 outs and multiply by 4 then add 1 which gives you a total of 81% but you can round it to 80% to make it easier.
This means that you have an 80% chance of winning and your opponent has a 20% chance to win. If you can catch your outs then you will have the best chance to win at that point. You then need to count the money in the pot. For this example we will say the pot has $200. You should compare the amount of money in the pot with the bet that you need to call. If your opponent bets $100 and you have the better odds then you would make the call at this point. If the person were to have bet more than half of the pot you would fold and anything else you would call. If you can figure out how to make the math work for you in poker than you will have a big advantage over your opponents.
